What is LVVR? Listen, Validate, Validate, Repair
LVVR stands for Listen, Validate, Validate, Repair. It is a communication method I developed from my experience in the room. It gives couples a way to talk about hard moments as they happen. It is an active dialogue about what is happening in the moment. I also utilize Gottman, PACT and Imago.
The Four Steps
- Listen.
- Validate. Say their words back to them, as exactly as you can.
- Validate again. After they are done and they say there is no more, you summarize what they said to check for understanding.
- Repair.
How It Works in the Room
I prefer that couples always come in person, and the first five sessions must be. I want to get to know you. I also utilize my PACT training to notice nonverbal cues and point them out as they happen, and that does not come through on video.
LVVR is part of couples therapy here. Session length and fees are on the rates page.
What LVVR Is Not
LVVR is not emergency care. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
