Questions

What a session costs, whether I take insurance, what happens the first time, and how to start.

What does a session cost?

A session is priced by its length. All rates are on the rates page.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance. However, I provide a monthly superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Whether your plan pays anything back is up to your plan.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

No. If cost is the deciding factor, a community clinic or your insurance company's list of in-network therapists will get you further than I can. I am glad to point you toward one.

How do I start?

I like to talk on the phone first, usually 15 or 20 minutes, before you come in. Call or text me at (310) 692-4114 to set that up, or book through the client portal if you would rather do it that way.

What happens in a first session?

We go through your history and what brings you in, I cover the limits of confidentiality and how I work, and we set some rough goals together. If you're coming for EMDR, we'll usually do a short round at the end on something small and recent, like a parking ticket. Nothing you would rate above a two or three out of ten. That way you know what it feels like before we go near anything harder.

Do you see clients online?

Talk therapy, yes, by video, for anyone physically in California at the time of the session. I only practice EMDR in my office.

What is Adaptive Childhood Reprocessing (ACR)?

ACR is short for Adaptive Childhood Reprocessing, the name I use for how I combine EMDR with work on childhood. EMDR can lower the emotional charge of a painful memory. ACR goes deeper, into what we carry from childhood, whether that is a misattuned parent or something much harder. More on the individual therapy page.

What is LVVR couples therapy?

LVVR stands for Listen, Validate, Validate, Repair. It is a communication method I developed. It gives couples a way to talk about hard moments as they happen. It is an active dialogue about what is happening in the moment. I also utilize Gottman, PACT and Imago. More on the couples therapy page.

Do you offer longer EMDR sessions?

Yes. EMDR sessions are 75 minutes, and that is the shortest I will do. The deep work tends to start around minute 42 to 50, so those extra 25 minutes can be really helpful in getting to the bottom of what brought you to therapy in the first place. If you have limited time, a very busy schedule, or travel often, we can book a double or triple session, billed as two or three 75-minute sessions.

What's your cancellation policy?

I ask for 24 hours' notice. Anything later than that is charged in full, since the hour is held for you.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, not a psychiatrist or psychologist. I don't prescribe medication or do psychological testing.

What if I need help right now?

If you're in a mental health crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.
